the Program
CoupleCARE
is a unique program offering couples an evidence-based relationship education
program that has been thoroughly evaluated and developed from a 20-year
research base on marriage and couple relationship education involving
more than 5000 couples.
The program is designed to enrich couple relationships by helping them
to:
•
assess their relationship strengths and vulnerabilities
• define the relationship they want
• develop key relationship skills
• identify individual actions to strengthen their relationship.
CoupleCARE consists of a DVD, partner guidebooks, and leader’s manual
covering 6 units of study. For each unit the couple watch a 15- to 20-minute
DVD segment. The DVD introduces key ideas about successful relationships
and demonstrates crucial relationship skills. The couple then undertake
the exercises described in the guidebook to apply the ideas to their relationship.
The exercises are a mix of individual and couple activities. The couple
then reviews their work with a trained relationship educator.
Couple CARE is designed to be completed by the couple at home, supported
by regular telephone calls from a professional relationship educator.
This flexible delivery mode allows the couple to do much of the program
in their own time and to book the review sessions with the educator at
mutually convenient times.
In order to make CoupleCARE as effective as possible, it is recommended
that leaders be trained in the delivery of the program. Training will
be available to human service professionals including relationship educators,
marriage and family therapists, psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists
and other professionals, through Griffith University.
