| This book is adapted from Depression Workshops that were presented to psychologists. It covers understanding and treatment of depression across the lifespan, from infancy, through childhood, adolescence, adulthood to old age Depression is now regarded as one of Australia’s most serious health problems. It affects 1 in 10 people and can strike at any time in a person’s life. While psychologists are aware that depression can affect people across the lifecycle, little attention has been given to the identification and treatment issues that are particular to each developmental stage. Psychologists Working with Depression Across the Lifecycle takes a broad developmental perspective on depression and offers health professionals creative and practical ideas for helping people who sufferer from depression. All of the contributors are experienced practising clinical psychologists who have had diverse career experiences. Depression Across the Lifecycle aims to reflect this diversity and contribute to a greater understanding of this debilitating disorder. |
Editor Sandra Lancaster BBSc (Hons), M.Psych, MPS, PhD, MAPS Sandra is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological Medicine, Monash University, and Director of Psychology for Southern Health. She is also Director of the newly established Monash University Clinical Psychology Centre and responsible for specialised training (Health and Medical Clinical Psychology and Child Adolescent and Family Psychology) for final year Doctor of Psychology students. Other professional positions include Chair of College of Clinical Psychologists (Victoria) and a statutory appointment to the Victorian Psychologists Registration Board. A clinical psychologist, Sandra’s previous position was as Deputy Director of Psychology at the Royal Children’s Hospital. A member of the Infant Mental Health Group at the Royal Children’s Hospital, she provided primary consultation to the Infant Distress Clinic for many years and has now established the Southern Infant Mental Health Group. Her current research interests are in the areas of pregnancy, infancy and early parenting. |
