INFORMATION FOR CONTRIBUTORS
Preparation of Manuscripts
Australian Voice is the official journal of The Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS). At present it is published as one volume annually. The purpose of the publication is to provide a medium for presentation and dissemination of original articles and research papers on all topics related to voice. It seeks to be international and non-partisan in encouraging discussion and debate on a wide range of subjects and methodologies. Research papers and original articles are invited from practitioners in all relevant fields on topics related to voice voice science, and physiology, vocal pedagogy, performance practice and style, music literature, and repertoire. Contributions to Australian Voice should fall into one of the following four categories.1. Refereed articles
Scholarly articles are sought and subjected to a blind review process. Article lengths may be 1500 3000 words (short), 3000 5000 words (medium) or more than 5000 words (long). The remaining three contribution categories have been established in recognition of the nature and history of voice development. Articles can be of any length, though a range of 500 to 2000 words is recommended. They will not be subjected to the blind review process.2. Case studies
Teachers and clinicians are invited to contribute to this forum for first-hand accounts of practitioners' experiences. Such experiences might document a number of similar cases or highlight an unusual instance. Papers should include an outline of the case or cases, reference to relevant pedagogical or clinical experience and/or literature, and a detailed discussion of the approaches and options available. This forum is intended to encourage sharing of the wisdom that only comes with hands-on experience. Authors are reminded to ensure that subject confidentiality is maintained.3. Student papers
Students enrolled in speech pathology, singing, speech and drama or related fields as postgraduate, undergraduate or single subject studies are invited to submit papers written during the course of their studies. Students whose papers are chosen for publication will win a year's membership of ANATS or Australian Voice Association (AVA). Chosen papers may be refereed at the student's request. Students are the practitioners of the future, and it is both a responsibility and a privilege to foster their development, encouraging them to participate fully in their chosen profession. The Editorial Board would urge all lecturers and teachers to encourage their students to participate.4. Practical experiences
This forum encourages contributions from teachers with good practical ideas straight from their teaching studios, performers who have discovered interesting and helpful strategies through personal experience, and speech pathologists and ear nose throat surgeons (ENTS) who have strong thoughts on a particular subject. All are invited to present thoughts, opinions, helpful hints, to open debate and share experiences and ideas with colleagues. All contributions should follow the editorial style detailed in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed., 2001). Authors are requested to use notes at the end of the article rather than footnotes on each page and to include a brief biography with the article. The editorial style used in the current issue of the journal isa model. In the first instance, contributions should be submitted as two hard copies printed on A4, double-spaced with 2.5cm margins and forwarded to the following address:The Editor
